Indian Bollywood actor, producer and director, Rama Mehra, was arrested by customs at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang Banten for allegedly smuggling endangered species from Indonesia to India. Arrest and threat of punishment
This arrest was successfully carried out starting from officers’ suspicions about luggage through x-ray inspection on the flight on July 1 2024, Indigo Air flight number (6E 1602) bound for Mumbai, India. It turned out that rare animals were found hidden among various items such as food, clothes and children’s toys.
This rare animal was found still alive and not dead, and in an anesthetized condition. This rare animal was brought in a rattan cage measuring approximately 40 x 50 cm and 30 x 10 cm for the bird of paradise and for albino otters, put them in a plastic cage measuring around 40 x 50 cm.
Immediately afterwards, action was taken in the form of summoning the passenger concerned who was already in position in the boarding room. From the information obtained, these rare animals were entrusted by a friend who is also an Indian foreigner to give to someone.

The evidence secured in this incident was 1 (one) Lesser Yellow Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea minor), 1 (one) Papuan Bald Bird of Paradise (cicinnurus respublica) and one Albino Small-clawed Otter (Aonyx cinereus) which was later The evidence was entrusted to be treated at the Jakarta BKSDA.
